Greensky Bluegrass Comes to New England
If you have heard about Greensky Bluegrass, a group from Michigan, it is because you have cool friends. If you haven’t, I’m about to fill you in. Don’t let the word “Bluegrass” fool you. These talented musicians are rock stars with acoustic instruments. Their live performances include jammy solos, elaborate lighting, and energetic riffs.
Their most recent studio album, Shouted, Written Down & Quoted, is currently 10th on the Billboard top bluegrass albums list and has been on the list for 10 weeks. While their studio albums are great for multiple listening sessions, their live music is where this band really shines. With covers from bands such as Phish, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Prince, Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, Beatles and much more, Greensky Bluegrass has a deep repertoire that is anything but traditional bluegrass.
Greensky Bluegrass will be down in Mexico this weekend with other bands such as Yonder Mountain String Band, Infamous String Dusters, Railroad Earth, Leftover Salmon, Keller and the Keels, and more. After their weekend on the beaches of Mexico, they continue their winter tour with a pair of shows in their home state of Michigan for New Year’s Eve. Us New Englanders will have a chance to catch them in January. Their only show in New England will be at the House of Blues on Friday, January 27th.
I am lucky enough to be photographing the performance that night. I am scratching 2 things off of my bucket list that night: to be photographing a band that I have enjoyed for years and to shoot a show in the House of Blues.
Tickets are expected to sell out and are available at http://concerts.livenation.com/event/010051561D5A804B
I hope to see you there!
